This is a
phonetic keyboard for writing Sanskrit with the International Alphabet of
Sanskrit Transliteration (IAST) based on the Harvard-Kyoto
input system. Instead of diacritics, capital letters are mainly used to
enter characters that do not have a corresponding letter in Latin script. This
reduces the keystrokes.
The
keyboard is mnemonic instead of positional, which means it works on all
language keyboards regardless of the placement of the letters.
Common vedic svaras are also available. For this, a
Unicode Font which supports transliterated Letters and Vedic svaras like URW Palladio ITU (designed by Herrmann
Zapf and edited by Ulrich Stiehl) is necessary.
